DEADLINE
AFS Editing addresses all the theoretical and technical expectations required from editors and assistant editors. Over the course of 3 weeks you will learn designing and organising workflows, dealing with CODECs and proxies, working with sound engineers and colourists, and finally packaging for theatrical screenings.

Monday 5th to Friday 23rd August 2024 from 9AM - 5PM.
Content:

Linear and nonlinear storytelling.

Experimental and avant-garde editing.
-
Sound before image / storytelling through sound.
-
Documentary and narrative editing structures.
Course is open for:
UAE national and resident emerging editors or assistant editors, with an editing credit in at least one short film. You must have a fundamental technical background in editing using one of the four main editing software: Adobe Premiere Pro, Logic Pro X, DaVinci Resolve or Avid Media Composer.
Please Submit the below materials with your application:

Create a 1 to 3-minute film with the following criteria:

Subject must be What My Eyes See/ ما تراه أعيني.

Share any story from your life, something you have experienced, something you like or dislike in your surroundings. You have creative freedom to present what the phrase means to you.

Use your voice as the voiceover (you can use your mother tongue with English subtitles).

You can use any footage from the internet or something you have filmed. If you wish to film anything new you can use what is accessible to you.

You can use sound effects, ambience sounds or field recordings.

Any editing software is acceptable.

The use of music and visual effects is not permitted.
-
The use of text is not permitted.

You can't appear in your film talking to the camera.

Draft a letter detailing your motivations:

Why do you want to take part in this program?

Share the titles of films that are influential to your work (up to three titles).

Share the names of the film directors that are influential to your work (up to three directors).

Answer the question "What does cinema mean to me?” (up to 100 words).

Share the titles of your favourite books (up to three titles).

What colour do you dislike the most? And why? (up to 50 words).

Course Tutor
Waleed Almadani
A DocNomads joint Master’s Degree Alumni in documentary directing, and an academic in the arts of camera works and film editing. His multi-lingual directed, filmed, and edited short film documentary productions have been screened in numerous film festivals around the world.
With a passion for academia, he works as a production and post-production instructor with multiple academic programs.
